Simone Biles just broke her silence.
For over a month, the gymnastics icon stayed out of the public eye following a terrifying incident in June. On June 15, she posted about what she called “one of, if not the scariests experience[s] of her life.” Now, she has confirmed that she underwent a specific medical procedure related to that event.
“Almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card.”
That was how she framed it back then. She didn’t give many details initially. Just a photo of her wrist. Hospital bands. A red band, specifically. And a dressing that looked like it was covering an IV site. She didn’t explain what those bands meant. She didn’t explain why she was in the hospital.
She just said she was on bed rest.
Since that June scare, Biles has kept her diagnosis private. But she hasn’t been hiding in a cave. She showed up at the 2026 ESPYS in New York City. She traveled internationally. She just got back from the Dominican Republic.
The recent update marks the first detailed status check since that near-death feeling. She promised she would explain everything “sooner or later.” That “later” seems to have arrived with a confirmation of a procedure. Still, the root cause of her hospitalization remains unspoken. She has chosen not to disclose the diagnosis. Not yet.

Then there’s Katelyn Ohashi. The former NCAA star returned to American Classic events after 13 years. At 29, and having undergone breast augmentation in 2025, Ohashi’s path looks different. Many watchers suspect Biles is done. The physical toll. The age. The recent health crisis.
It makes sense.
But Biles hasn’t signed off. She says she remains undecided about chasing a fourth-straight Olympic team spot. She hasn’t ruled it out. She hasn’t confirmed it.
